Jurassic World to Grace the Reels of a Slot Game

Jurassic World to Grace the Reels of a Slot Game

The fascination with dinosaurs continues and although the creatures that roamed the earth millions of years ago have gone, their existence lives on through archaeology, history and of course, film. Since the first Jurassic Park movie, directed by Steven Spielberg, debuted in 1993, audiences have been captivated by it and the three subsequent movies, which created a monstrous collection. The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III and the 2015 hit, Jurassic World have amassed quite a following so it’s no surprise that games are being developed based on this theme. One of the top online slot game developers, Microgaming, announced a licensing agreement with Universal Brand Development in February to launch the Jurassic World Video Slot.

The gambling industry often draws inspiration for game development from pop culture with slots based on music, television and film. We’ve seen games based on Elton John, Bridesmaids, The Big Bang Theory, Ted, Britney Spears, Sex in the City, Guns N Roses and many more icons.

Microgaming is based in the UK and has created over 850 games for the online gambling sector since the 1990’s. The company is one of the most widely known brands of software and the Jurassic World slot is a follow up to its Jurassic Park title, which launched in August 2014. The licensing deal was announced in January of the same year so if that’s any indication, we may be welcoming the second game in the series sometime in 2016.

Other than the licensing contract, Microgaming has given no hints as to the details of its new game. Jurassic Park is a film based on a theme park where the cloned dinosaur exhibit gets loose and wreaks havoc. As for the slot game, it uses actual movie footage and includes a variety of features, in fact there are 5 dinosaur features available in this game including wild reels, multiplying wilds, running wilds, mystery multiplier and stacked symbols. The T-Rex Alert triggers randomly and adds 35 extra wilds to the reels for one spin.

Microgaming describes the Jurassic Park slot as “Ground-breaking. Earth-shaking. Breath-taking. Discover a world of extraordinary visual and acoustic depth, where exquisitely rendered environments, seamlessly animated dinosaurs and a spectacular parallax design bring one of Hollywood’s most iconic and imaginative creations to life like never before. Jurassic Park is one of the most successful films of all time, generating over $1 billion at the box office and winning three Oscars, two BAFTAs and twenty other industry awards. Featuring 243 ways to win across five reels, Jurassic Park online slot is breaking new ground for Microgaming and Quickfire operators.”

So 2015 brought about a new era of prehistoric adventures with Jurassic World. This film takes place on the original site of the first Jurassic Park. Only this time there is a serious genetically modified dino on the premises and he’s headed on a mission to kill. We lost Spielberg as director after the first two films but Colin Trevorrow created magic, or shall we say terror, on the silver screen last year. Ty Simpkins, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard star in the film and if Microgaming does anything like what was done with Jurassic Park this new game is sure to bring moments from the movie to the slot reels complete with audio and special features.

In terms of features, Microgaming is responsible for many innovations in the iGaming industry. Its 243 ways to win games have become extremely popular among online gamblers. More ways to win? Sure sign me up. With that said, it seems that the more recent releases are going back to standard formats with 20 to 25 paylines. In some cases, Microgaming has been known to launch a game in two formats. An example of this would be its Game of Thrones from 2014. It was simultaneously released in a 243 ways to win variation along with a 15-line version. Special game features like wild reels, interactive bonus games, free spins, Rolling Reels, nudges, wildly popular themes and much more make its products so appealing to players.

Microgaming has a website and YouTube page where it publishes game previews. If you’re interested in being among the first to check out the Jurassic World slot preview, you’ll probably want to stalk that page over the next several months. Until then, we’ll just have to wait to see Jurassic World grace the reels of a slot.
