MLS: Three Stars Who May Move to the United States

Without a shadow of a doubt, Major League Soccer is one of the fastest growing divisions in world football. The Chinese Super League has dominated the headlines for their transfer activity in recent times but America’s primary soccer league is still an attractive option for professionals who are looking to enhance or reignite their careers. Here are three stars who could join MLS sides at some point ahead of the new season.

Jonathan Spector

The former West Ham United star is currently plying his trade with Birmingham City on the second tier of English soccer but has been strongly linked with a move to join Brazil legend Kaka at Orlando City ahead of the upcoming MLS campaign. Spector, who was on the books of Manchester United as a youngster, has never really fulfilled his potential in the sport but the 30-year-old could be a useful asset for Orlando.

Spector has notched 36 caps for the United States national side throughout his career and he is familiar with a number of Orlando City’s key players. While he isn’t necessarily an elite option in defence, he is good enough to hold a regular spot in Orlando City’s starting lineup and could lead the franchise to a maiden MLS Cup.

Sami Khedira

The Juventus man starred in Juventus’ 2-0 victory over Lazio earlier this month but rumours have suggested that Khedira could be set to join New York City FC in the coming weeks. On paper, Khedira is still an elite talent and the Germany star will bring plenty of top level insight and experience to Major League Soccer. In fact, he would go down in history as one of the most successful players to play in the United States.

Whilst he isn’t getting any younger, Khedira is still talented enough to hold his own in Serie A and he could blossom into an elite option for New York City if he chooses to leave Italy before the end of the transfer window. Khedira isn’t going to score goals on a regular basis but he can help to control matches and Patrick Vieira’s side need a dominant figure in midfield.

Bastian Schweinsteiger

Some of the rumours surrounding Schweinsteiger’s future have quietened down in recent times, but the Germany star may still be pushing for a move away from Old Trafford. He has struggled to break into Jose Mourinho’s lineup this year and a move could be on the cards if he wants to prolong his career before hanging up his boots. The Chicago Fire are one of the leading contenders to sign Schweinsteiger and they are sure to be there or thereabouts in the latest MLS betting odds with bet365 ahead of the new campaign.

At 34 years old, he is approaching the twilight years of his career but it would be fair to state that Schweinsteiger still has enough skill to hold his own in America’s top division. With over 100 international caps under his belt, the Bayern Munich legend will go down in history as one of the modern greats and a potential move to Chicago Fire might be the perfect move for Schweinsteiger as he looks to settle down and prove his worth.
