Altaf Bukhari takes oath as minister in J&K cabinet

He was the Roads and Buildings Minister in the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led Peoples Democratic Party-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition in 2015.

Senior PDP member and MLA AmiraKadal, Muhammad Altaf Bukhari took the oath as a minister at swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhawan, Jammu on Friday.

As per the reshuffle of portfolios, Syed Altaf Bukhari was made the new Education Minister.

After nearly ten months of patient wait as an outsider, Bukhari was administered oath by the J&K Governor N N Vohra, in Jammu and was re-inducted in the Cabinet, in presence of selected gathering of politicians, police officials and bureaucrats.

According to the conditions of the alliance between PDP and BJP, Ms Mufti's party has a quota of 14 ministers, including the Chief Minister, while the BJP party has 11 ministerial berths.

Mr Bhat said that Bukhari's induction in the ministry would facilitate good governance and also augur well for the party through his keen desire to contribute.

"It doesn't matter what portfolio chief minister assigns me".

He said that Bukhari had enough experience, will and commitment to serve public interest and surely do more in his extended role.
