Beijing, Surprised by US Strike on Syria, Ponders Timing

Ivanka Trump urged her two oldest kids Arabella and Joseph to serenade the Chinese President Xi Jinping in Mandarin during his visit to the Donald's Mar-a-Lago estate.

The meeting of the leaders of the world's two largest economies was largely overshadowed by the USA missile strikes on Syria.

Well-prepared as Xi might have seemed to China watchers, he was apparently surprised when the USA military got an order from their commander-in-chief to launch Tomahawk cruise missile attacks on Syria in retaliation for the Assad regime's alleged use of chemical weapons against civilians. Trump reportedly informed Xi about the attack after a dinner on Thursday.

The start of the meeting came on a night of high drama as Trump not only met his nearest peer in economic world power for the first time but also launched his first military strike on a state target.

These new mechanisms can be taken as expressions by both sides to follow the principles of non-confrontation, no conflict, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, it said.

Trump showed support for South Korea's policy toward North Korea, vowing close cooperation to resolve North Korea's nuclear standoff.
