India will take part in Champions Trophy

The Indian cricket team for next month's ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in United Kingdom has been named by the Board of Control for Cricket in India selectors here today.

The BCCI had even indicated that it may not send a team to the Champions Trophy, a decision regarding which was sent aside for the boards Special General Meeting (SGM) on May 7.

BCCI had missed the deadline of April 25 for submitting the squad for the tournament because ICC's new financial model disappointed BCCI as it reduces BCCI's revenue from $ 570 million to $ 293 million.

Dhawan paid a price of his inconsistency, and was axed from the Indian team. I think he has got one of the best brains, and is the best person to guide (skipper) Virat (Kohli).

Rohit returned from a thigh injury and the right-hander will be joined by southpaw Shikhar Dhawan, who owes his own comeback primarily to a shoulder injury for Lokesh Rahul.

The Board Of Control for Cricket in India has cleared India's participation for the upcoming Champions Trophy. It might also be last champions trophy for Dhoni and he would love to win this trophy again.

The BCCI's use of the Champions Trophy as a bargaining chip was strongly criticised and Indian cricketing greats including Sachin Tendulkar urged the country to compete. The four pace bowlers and the balanced spin bowling attack also makes the heavy batting side a better contender of the tournament this time. "As of now, we have picked Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma as openers and Ajinkya Rahane is the back-up", Prasad replied when asked about Gambhir. Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be the wicket-keeper in the side.

Shami is hopeful that the quartet of him, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah should be able to perform as a unit. Though we haven't seen some good spells from him this IPL but we are sure that he will be performing well on England's fast pitches.

India will be taking on Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa on 4th June, 8th June and 11th June respectively.
