Following his victory at the Supreme Court recently, Senator Ahmed Markarfi has granted "Amnesty" to Ali Modu Sheriff and his faction of the people's democratic party (PDP).
Sheriff had been installed as the party's National Working Committee (NWC) chairman in an acting capacity until he was removed during the party's 2016 National Convention.
In a show of good faith, Sheriff has released a statement through spokesperson of the party's National Caretaker Committee, Dayo Adeyeye, saying that the court judgement should serve as a fresh start for the party and not another reason to stay divided.
"As a loyal and dedicated member who has held leadership position at the national level, the PDP remains my home as we once more rededicate ourselves and place the overriding interest of our party over and above every personal ambition or interest".
But in a statement by the erstwhile spokesman of the faction, Bernard Mikko, Sheriff said it is mischievous for anyone to say that he congratulated Makarfi on twitter.
Lana in his address told members that with the court's judgment of Wednesday, the PDP's rebirth had commenced in earnest, assuring that the days of the ruling party in the state were numbered as PDP would take over Agodi government house by 2019.
"It is general amnesty for all".
He stated, "APC is a monumental disaster".
Adeyeye, a former Minister of State for Works, said the PDP would provide a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2019 general elections.
He said that he would have destroyed his membership card of the party and the flag right at the court premises if the verdict had been in favour of Sheriff. "APC will begin to see virile opposition henceforth".
"I never imagined myself being in the same party with impostors", he said.
