"I played my game well", Garrett said, after the Cleveland Browns won their preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints by a score of 20-14.

Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, the first overall pick in the 2017 draft, made two run stops in the first quarter - one when he tackled Daniel Lasco for a 2-yard loss and one when he stopped rookie Alvin Kamara at the line of scrimmage.

But the coach will have to strike a balance over the next 10 days - including six straight days of practice - of determining if Kizer is ready to start the season while getting Brock Osweiler enough first-team reps in the event it's him.

Cody Kessler took over for Osweiler, but he did not do much to standout. The Browns had some heroics from the young signal caller, DeShone Kizer, finding Jordan Payton for a 45-yard touchdown with just under two minutes remaining to give the Browns their first preseason victory since 2015.

If first impressions mean anything, especially in a QB-starved town like Cleveland, you can not help but think that the future arrived on a early August night of pre-season football, and it's name is DeShone Kizer.

The Browns don't play again until August 21 so Cleveland head coach Hue Jackson will have some time to figure out what he is going to do with his depth chart. Let's see it for what it was: the guy made some plays at the end to give us a chance to win, but there's still things he needs to do better. As you can imagine, they did have a lot of them since the Browns won only one game a year ago.

"He can make those plays", Jackson said. He threw for 5 completions for 47 yards. He finished 11 of 18 for 184 yards and a touchdown.

"I'm going to think through all these scenarios, I really am", Jackson said.

The first was a 52-yarder to Richard Mullaney that set up a 1-yard TD run by Terrance Magee to cut the deficit to 14-13 with 12:33 left in the fourth quarter.

Why they could suck: Cleveland lost 15 games previous year and still don't have a clear-cut answer at quarterback. Osweiler was acquired in a trade that many thought was just Cleveland taking on salary. Garrett was effective as a pass rusher at Texas A&M, and he joins a defense that last season was tied for 30th in the National Football League with 26 sacks.

"See ball, get ball, force fumble, make plays". "When he had an opportunity to rush, he rushed well". "Go in, just whip ass and go win". He made one play in the backfield.
