White House renovations underway while president's away

The main goal of this summer's work is to update the creaking air conditioning system.

He is now in the middle of a 17-day "working vacation" at his private New Jersey golf club.

Portions of the West Wing of the White House are undergoing a long-planned renovation this month. He will move from his suburban New Jersey golf club on Sunday to spend time at Trump Tower in New York City.

It also houses the offices of the president's closest advisers, the White House press corps and the briefing room.

Workmen prepared new carpeting for the West Wing. Even Presidential Advisor Dan Scavino snapped some from the Oval Office.

Outgoing Press Secretary Sean Spicer gave reporters a tour of the White House on Friday, showing some of the around-the-clock fix work.

But for a week now, the West Wing has been one big construction site.

President Trump may in New Jersey for a 17-day vacation, but the White House has been humming with activity in his absence as it undergoes a series of renovations.

Like the rest of the White House, the cornerstone of which was laid in 1792, the West Wing needs regular renovations.

Cranes were positioned in front of the South Portico.

Carpet is unloaded off a truck at the West Wing. He's set to return to Washington for a brief visit Monday.
