Yuvraj Singh dropped, Manish Pandey back for ODIs, T20I

BCCI announces ODI squad for Sri Lanka Tour: All rounder Yuvraj Singh and batsman Rishabh Pant have been dropped from the team.

The squad: Virat Kohli (captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma (vice captain), Lokesh Rahul, Manish Pandey, Ajinkya Rahane, Kedar Jadhav, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur.

A significant call made by the selectors is the omission of the 35-year old Yuvraj. In his last seven ODI appearances, Yuvraj has managed only 162 runs and was given bowling only once.

Pandey, who was sidelined from national duty due to a side strain during the IPL this year, returned in stunning fashion in List A cricket. Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the series against the West Indies has also been included in the 15-man squad for the ODI and Twenty20 series. He led India A to victory in the tri-series in South Africa earlier this month, and led the run-charts with 307 runs in five innings.

With team selection imminent, Dhoni and Suresh Raina, who last played an ODI for India in October 2015, sweated it out on Friday. Young Manish Pandey returns to the squad. The Selectors have also given rest Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav, with Mumbai fast-bowler Shardul Thakur being given a chance.

India, who are now in Sri Lanka, have already sealed the Test series 2-0, with the third Test now being played.
