The U.S. military says one soldier died and an unspecified number of American and Afghan soldiers were wounded in a combat operation against the Islamic State affiliate in eastern Afghanistan.
"One US service member has died as a result of wounds suffered Wednesday during a partnered operation with US and Afghan Forces in Eastern Afghanistan", the release said. The wounded personnel have been medically evacuated for treatment.
Next of kin are being notified, the statement noted.
Wednesday's death is the third US combat fatality this month, following an attack on a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation convoy in Kandahar province on August 2 that killed two soldiers and wounded four others.
US and Afghan forces launched an offensive against ISIS-K in early March to drive the group from the eastern Nangarhar Province.
The latest death brings the number of American service members killed while involved in the fight against ISIS-K this year to seven, and the total for USA troops in Afghanistan this year to 10.
