Aston Merrygold joins Strictly Come Dancing

Aston Merrygold joins Strictly Come Dancing

Following the announcement, he said: "I am so excited, terrified and proud to be invited to be part of Strictly 2017".

A Press Association breakdown of the 200 contestants by age shows how the programme has tended to favour younger stars during its 14 years on television. 'I'm both nervous and excited to learn from the professionals about a whole new way of dancing!'

These have included four of the show's champions: cricketer Mark Ramprakash, singer Alesha Dixon, gymnast Louis Smith, and last year's victor, TV presenter Ore Oduba.

Sunday Brunch presenter Simon Rimmer has joked he could easily beat off competition from his Strictly Come Dancing rivals unveiled so far.

He also said his previous dance experience as a boyband member will not be much help to him.

The singer will be the 200th celeb to take part in Strictly since the show began way back in 2004.

In the same year, Aston became a judge on the fourth series of Sky1's Got to Dance, on which he also performed. Since then, Aston has been working on his solo career.

And it's none other than JLS singer and former X Factor finalist Aston Merrygold.

Over the weekend, Simon Rimmer and Joe McFadden were announced as the sixth and seventh contestants. Johnny has revealed his drag queen alter ego Sarah Lee.

Ruth Langsford, Gemma Atkinson, Rev Richard Coles, and Mollie King have already been confirmed for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Aston was rumoured earlier in the month but has now been confirmed.

Born and bred Peterborian and ex-JLS superstar Aston Merrygold has been revealed as the latest contestant for the next series of hit BBC TV show Strictly Come Dancing.
