Several passengers were feared to be dead.

9 PAC Companies issued orders to immediately reach Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar to extend help in Relief and Rescue operations, reported ANI.

Sources said that ten coaches of the train, which was on its way to Haridwar in Uttarakhand from Puri in Odisha, derailed near the outer cabin near Khatauli. One coach rammed into a house on the sides of the tracks and two coaches climbed one over the other.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted saying he is monitoring the situation. Rescue operation is underway. Kumar also said IMA chapters in Meerut zone have been alerted and asked to ensure adequate and prompt medical care to the injured. The accident took place at around 5:46 pm in Khatauli, about 100 km from Delhi. Cutters and cranes have been requisitioned to cut the mangled remains of the coaches and rescue people from inside. We are yet to ascertain if there are any casualties, says Northern Railways CPRO Neeraj Sharma.

Officials here said that the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) team of the UP police had also rushed to the spot to investigate if sabotage was behind the mishap. "All efforts being taken to ensure speedy relief and rescue operations".

He said the District Magistrate of Muzaffarnagar will reach the train derailment site shortly.

- Former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh expressed condolences to the grieving kin of the victim.

"Railways Ministry and UP Government are doing everything possible and providing all assistance required in the wake of the train derailment", the Prime Minister said. Railway Minister said, he is also in close touch with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and district administration of the State to coordinate rescue and relief operations.
