Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been able to instill a sense of fear among those indulging in "terror funding". "We will accept challenges and in the past three years incident of naxalism, terrorism and extremism have seen a downward trend", he said.

"The NIA has emerged as a credible investigating enjoys freedom in its work and there is no interference in its working, " the minister said.

He said that in the past three years, the extremism has come down by 75 per cent in the Northeast and Naxalism has come down by 35 to 40 per cent.

He said that the fake currency plays a vital role in fuelling terrorism/ Naxalism.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath suggested holding of a meeting, every six month, between the NIA and state agencies.

"Terrorists have been misusing the open borders to bring in fake currency to the country for terror activities", he said.

Stressing that UP will provide all assistance to NIA, Yogi said there is a need for technology improvement besides the security agencies should be hi-tech to counter the insurgency and terrorism as these forces are trying to gain ground in some parts of the country. "It's a continuous process of sharing information".

Singh further said that while the four states which fall under the jurisdiction of NIA's Lucknow office were "peaceful" in the context of terrorism, there were still 20 cases that are being investigated by the office.
