This is the third killing in sensitive south Kashmir region in the last 24 hours and second in Shopian in less than 12 hours.
The slain body was identified as that of Gowhar Ahmad, son of Abdul Rehman Dar of Urpara village in Nagbal area of the district. The police on Monday claimed that militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was behind the incident. The bullet-ridden body of Gowhar Ahmad Dar, a resident of Shopian's Urpora, was found from Humhona Mulberry.
Hizb-ul-Mujahideen in a statement issued in Srinagar said, "Kashmiri youth with freedom loving spirit have always remained on the radar of Indian agencies". "Hizb expresses deep sympathies with the bereaved family", he said.
Dar, a student, had been missing since Saturday evening.
"His bullet-riddled body was recovered today morning", the Station House Officer said.
Terrorists killed a cable operator in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Sunday evening. "Jjust 16 years old boy killed by militants.Police is investigating the matter", tweeted deputy inspector general of police, south Kashmir range. With killing of over one hundred odd militants including two Pakistani militants Abu Dijana and Umer of Pakistan who were caught in the encounters at various places across south Kashmir in two months, the militant outfits operating in the south of Kashmir are unnerved finding themselves without any public support.
