More charities cancel fundraisers at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club

The Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach and an ovarian cancer group are the latest nonprofits to cancel charity events at President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Trump's loss is others' gain, as several hotels in Palm Beach County have been contacted by the charities to serve as replacement hosts for the galas.

On Thursday, The Washington Post reported that The American Cancer Society, the Cleveland Clinic, and The American Friends of Magen David Adom (a charity which supports an Israeli counterpart to the American Red Cross), would no longer host their annual fundraising galas at Mar-a-Lago.

Prominent organizations are canceling events at Mar-a-Lago, President Trump's resort in Florida.

"After thoughtful consideration by zoo leadership, we have decided it is important that we not allow distractions to deter us from our mission and culture", said the organization's CEO and president, Andrew Aiken, in a statement.

MorseLife made the decision not to hold its annual luncheon at the club for the first time in a decade, but offered no reason for the move, according to the Post.

The moves follow a divisive press conference last Tuesday where Trump refused to draw distinctions between neo-Nazi ralliers and their counter-protesters, instead blaming "both sides".

"Where is everybody?" The main Mar-a-Lago ballroom, shown here before a 2016 Palm Beach County GOP dinner, could be empty for much of the 2017-18 social season.

"The American Red Cross has decided we can not host our annual fundraising event at Mar-a-Lago, as it has increasingly become a source of controversy and pain for many of our volunteers, employees and supporters".

-The Salvation Army said it will find a different venue for its Holiday Snow Ball.

On Friday, Nancy G. Brinker, founder of the Susan G. Komen organisation, wrote a post on Facebook in support of the board's decision to seek another venue for the yearly fundraiser: "There are no excuses, parsing or moral relativism when it comes to racism, bigotry and violence".

"After considerable deliberation, AFMDA - an apolitical and humanitarian aid organization - will not hold its 2018 Palm Beach Celebration of Life Gala at Mar-a-Lago".

A spokeswoman for the Trump Organization didn't respond to an email seeking comment.
