The AMG GT R is set to rival the Porsche 911 Turbo and Aston Martin's Vantage V12, while the GT Roadster will compete against the Jaguar F-type and the Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet.

These two new launches by Mercedes-Benz brings its AMG portfolio in India to 12 models. Yamaha launched its first 250cc bike in India- the FZ25 and finally Mahindra will soon be launching Android Auto in all their cars.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the AMG brand, Mercedes Benz India today launched the AMG GT-R and the AMG GT Roadster. All that power is sent to the rear wheels via the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It has also recently set a new lap record for a production-spec auto at the Buddh International Circuit of 2min 9.8sec.

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Roadster comes in two variants, but in India the base variant will be available, which is a toned down performance compared to the other. The engine powers the GT R to sprint from standstill to 100kmph in 3.6 seconds before reaching the top speed 317kmph.

Coming to the power, the GT R is onboarded with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that clocks 576hp of power and 700Nm of torque. At the rear, the auto comes with a new exhaust system which aims to deliver a race vehicle sound along with horizontal LED tail lamps. The drop-top sportscar doesn't get the rear-wheel steering of the flagship, but is otherwise mechanically similar. "The auto comes with a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission in a transaxle arrangement at the rear axle". The GT Roadster has a top speed of 302 kmph.

The AMG GT Roadster is quickly transformed from a coupé to an open-top sports auto.

"Bringing in the fastest cars from the fastest family in the world is proof of the increasing importance of India as a market and its potential for performance sports cars", said Roland Folger, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Both the cars come with AMG's Speedshift DCT 7-speed dual-clutch transmission though the GT-R comes with a number of key add-ons. The GT R gets a hardtop whereas the GT Roadster, quite obvious by its name, is a convertible.
