Army Saturday said troops foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district by killing two militants. "However, when challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened indiscriminate fire with automatic weapons, they said adding the fire was retaliated and in the initial reports two militants were killed", spokesperson said.
The militants were killed in Machil sector of the LoC where infiltrators from Pakistan administered Kashmir tried to enter the valley, the Defence Ministry sources said.
Pakistani troops started firing at Indian posts in Arnia sector around midnight, prompting Border Security Force (BSF) personnel to retaliate, the officer said. Every year, these sectors witness occasional heavy gunfights between infiltrating militants and troops. This year, the Army has foiled a total of 22 infiltration bids along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, and 38 armed intruders have been eliminated in such operations.
However, the Army foiled their bid and neutralised them in the process.
