D'Tigers see off Senegal, qualify for Afrobasket final

The Nigeria senior men's basketball team, D'Tigers, have been dethroned as champions of Africa after they were beaten 77-65 by Tunisia in Saturday's final of the 2017 Afrobasket tournament.

Yesterday's victory makes it the second in two weeks when a Nigerian team will humble their Camerronian opponents after the Super Eagles had the better of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in a double header 2018 World Cup qualifier in Uyo and Yaounde.

Alex Nwora's side managed to win the first quarter of the game before surrendering to the superior firepower of the North Africans in the next two quarters and earning a draw in the final phase of the game.

Despite minimal time to prepare, D'Tigers put together a great performance at AfroBasket 2017!

Nigeria led the first and second quarters at 25-18 and 27-25 but the Cameroonians fought back to win the third quarter at 27-23.

The Tunisians won the third quarter 52-40, making it very hard for D'Tigers to get back into the game. Diogu, alongside teammate Ikenna Iroegbu, Tunisia duo Mohamed Hadidane and Mourad El Mabrouk, as well as Senegal's Gorgui Dieng were named in the tournament's All-Star team.
