Escaped inmate's vehicle found in Omaha parking lot

Dodge County officials said Scott escaped custody Wednesday after he fought with the deputy while being transported.

Iowa authorities have captured an inmate who had escaped from handcuffs Wednesday near Ithica, Nebraska and choked a deputy unconscious.

Jail. The transfer was in preparation for a court appearance Thursday.

Eric Scott, 37, considered to be armed and unsafe, escaped custody about three miles south of Ceresco on Highway 77.

"He later left that vehicle at Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha", the Nebraska State Patrol says. If Scott is convicted on all counts and given the maximum sentences, Glass said the inmate could spend the rest of his life in prison.

One Dodge County deputy was injured and is going to the hospital for evaluation, but it's unclear how bad the deputy's injuries are.

He is believed to be armed with a 40-caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Anyone who sees Scott or the vehicle is asked to call the Dodge County Sheriff's Office at 402-727-2700 or local law enforcement.

But court records show he faced five new felony charges, including three child sex assault charges, two of which carry 20-year to life terms, in Dodge County.

Scott is serving 2-4 years for fifth-offense DUI.

He had a preliminary hearing on these charges scheduled for Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
