Syria Army Liberates More Areas in Deir Ez-zor

General Igor Konashenkov said that Syrian troops working alongside Russian special forces outside the city have been shelled twice by the SDF, which is positioned on the eastern banks of the Euphrates with us special forces, Reuters reports.

Russian Federation is supporting the current offensive by Syrian regime forces against Daesh near the city of Deir Ezzor with air cover.

On Wednesday, Syrian forces carried out intensive operations against the gathering centers of Daesh terrorists in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, making progress on the western axis and establishing control over a number of villages and farms near al-Tabani town, SANA reported. The U.S. -backed militia warned Monday that any further attempts to advance on the eastern Euphrates would be met with retaliation.

Syrian fighters backed by U.S. special forces battled today to clear the last remaining Islamic State group jihadists holed up in their crumbling stronghold of Raqa.

Russia's Ministry of Defense said mortars had been fired at its own special forces from positions held by US troops and the SDF on the eastern banks of the Euphrates.

Above the Euphrates at Deir al-Zor, Reuters photographs showed soldiers and journalists peering over a wall to take pictures of a river along which the Syrian army has only recently gained stretches of land after an absence of years.

"Our troops have made huge contributions to the fight against Daesh (ISIS), helping end its tyranny in large parts of Iraq and Syria". "We will continue to deconflict with the Russians at every level to ensure that we remain focused on fighting ISIS, all while protecting coalition and our partner forces".

The U.S. -backed militias said on Saturday they had come under attack from Russian jets and Syrian government forces, something Moscow denied. On Sept. 4, a US strike killed Islamic State's top weapons researcher, Abu Ans al-Shami, as he rode on a motorcycle on a road near Mayadin, Syria.

"A representative of the USA military command in Al Udeid [the United States operations centre in Qatar] was told in no uncertain terms that any attempts to open fire from areas where SDF fighters are located would be quickly shut down", he said.

"They have conducted over 1,500 strikes against Daesh terrorist targets and helped train almost 60,000 Iraqi security forces".

"We control 80 per cent of Raqa and the other 20 per cent is in the firing line of our forces", said Jihan Sheikh Ahmed, spokeswoman for the "Wrath of the Euphrates" operation.

While the Pentagon says there are about 500 US troops now deployed to Syria - mostly special operations forces - the actual number is unknown and believed to be much higher.

But U.S. forces on the ground are not speaking with Russian forces on the ground, he added. Russian Federation said it had only carried out strikes against ISIS, and that it had used the normal channels to communicate its planned attack.

He said the USA -led coalition would continue to communicate with Russian forces to ensure the separation of forces does not collapse entirely, and that all sides keep focusing on defeating Islamic State.

"Fire from positions in regions [controlled by the SDF] will be suppressed by all means necessary", he said, adding that the SDF apparently halted the siege of Raqqa to hamper the advance of the Syrian troops in Deir ez-Zor.
