Caregiver charged after boy dies in hot auto in Toronto

Police say a young child has died after being left in a auto in west-end Toronto.

The boy, believed to be four years old, was found in a vehicle parked at 299 Mill Road in Etobicoke at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and later died.

Toronto Police say paramedics and firefighters initially responded to a medical call in the parking lot at 299 Mill Rd., near Burnhamthorpe Rd. and Renforth Dr., around 1 p.m.

The vehicle was behind an apartment building on Mill Road, near Burnhamthorpe, around 1 p.m. A window of the burgundy Hyundai sedan was smashed and a black vehicle seat are evidence at the scene.

The temperature on Thursday peaked at 26 C, with a humidex of 31.

David Hopkinson said that Zeljna Kosovac, 50, will formally be charged with criminal negligence causing death when she appears in court on Friday at 10 a.m.at College Park court.
