Microsoft announces general availability of SQL Server 2017

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced a host of new software, device, and security options at the Microsoft Ignite conference in Orlando on Monday.

"Microsoft Teams will evolve as the core communications client", said Ron Markezich, Microsoft's corporate vice president of Office 365, in a press briefing. Microsoft is also planning to beef up the Office 365 search function itself. "We believe there is tremendous opportunity to empower these workers to promote growth, spark innovation and accelerate an organization's success in the digital age".

New capabilities in Microsoft 365 F1 include updates to Windows 10 that improve the deployment and management of remote devices, along with capabilities for configuring locked down, single goal experiences.

Microsoft 365 Education includes Office 365 for Education, Windows 10, Enterprise Mobility + Security, and Minecraft: Education Edition, which is a package designed to give students, faculty and staff everything they need to create and collaborate, securely. Today, Microsoft has announced two new Microsoft 365 offerings, Microsoft 365 Education and Microsoft 365 F1.

They're releasing a new version of Skype for Business Server in the second half of calendar year 2018 for customers who are not yet ready to move their PBX and advanced calling capabilities to the cloud.

Microsoft is also introducing a service that will ease the migration of databases from on-premises data centers into its cloud, and it will start letting people reserve computing resources for future use - at lower prices than they would ordinarily pay. And that means a boatload of news about Windows, Office, Azure, Skype - and everything else in Microsoft's arsenal that the company is targeting to business and enterprise customers.

To help IT Pros manage their environments, Microsoft is adding new features to make it simpler to manage users and devices.

And because Microsoft loves security, they are adding new capabilities to Microsoft 365 as well to further enhance this product. Also, HP and Lenovo will support Windows AutoPilot starting in January, alongside Microsoft Surface.
