De Blasio hits Trump on Puerto Rico: 'Get back to work'

Cruz argued that federal aid had been slow to reach Puerto Rico following Maria, which knocked out power to the entire island.

More than two weeks after Hurricane Maria lashed the island, killing 36 people, Cruz tweeted Sunday: "Increasingly painful to undestand the american people want to help and US Gov does not want to help". She said FEMA had offered "no response" after a hospital requested aid. She shared photos of volunteers and continue to plea for help, saying authorities in the federal government "do not want to help". "So much work!" the president tweeted.

Meanwhile, FEMA Administrator Brock Long said during an interview the agency was filtering out the mayor's comments as "political noise". "We were the only logistics provider that had truck power - albeit limited at the time - available as soon as the U.S. Coast Guard reopened the port in San Juan".

During his interview with Mike Huckabee, Trump also criticized Cruz for slamming him - and then talked about the "beautiful, soft towels" that he threw into crowds of Puerto Ricans as if they were footballs. Very good towels. And I came in and there was a crowd of a lot of people. "And also when I walked in, the cheering was incredible", recounted Trump. He added that Cruz was "very complimentary only a few days ago", but "has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump".

In regards to the relief efforts in Puerto Rico, Trump said they received nothing but praise from the governor and most of the mayors for the work that has been done. The President claimed that although these events were bad, he saw them as an opportunity to help people and to feel good about doing so.

"In one sense, you hate to see it", he told Huckabee.

That's the Federal Emergency Management Agency's administrator, Brock Long, declaring Sunday that FEMA had quit listening to the elected leader of a city that's home to almost 400,000 of Puerto Rico's 3.4 million population. The White House press pool said he was golfing at another of his properties on Saturday.
