Butch Jones announces injuries, confirms starting QB for SC

Dormady has been benched in favor of Jarrett Guarantano for Tennessee's upcoming game against South Carolina, Fox Sports Knoxville reports.

Tennessee offensive coordinator Larry Scott said this week that Guarantano had learned from that experience.

News first broke Tuesday that Jones planned to start Guarantano this week, but Wednesday marked Jones' first public remarks on the situation. Again, you need to score points in this conference and it's going to take points to win. It's going to take points to win, and like I said, it's no reflection on Quinten, it's a lot of individuals around him. "The scheme is the scheme, the scheme is in place, so it's more just I think Jarrett has earned that right and that opportunity".

Guarantano has seen action in three games this season, coming on in relief of offensive struggles.

Guarantano, the nation's No. 1 dual-threat quarterback prospect in the 2016 industry-generated 247Sports Composite, has completed 12 of 24 passes this season for 54 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions. Dormady played the entire game, and cameras honed in on Guarantano, who appeared subdued and distant from the team.

Dormady started each of Tennessee's first five games this season after backing up Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Joshua Dobbs the last two years. On the season, he's thrown for 925 yards and six touchdowns.

Head coach Butch Jones and the Tennessee Volunteers are still looking for their first SEC victory.

"He obviously was disappointed", Jones said of Dormady, "but that's what you expect from a competitor". He came out and worked. You're always one snap away.

Jones did not specific if Dormady would play in Saturday's game.
