Amazon Kindle Oasis with 7-inch display, waterproof design launched in India

"Ten years ago, we introduced our first Kindle with the mission of delivering any book every written in 60 seconds or less", said Dave Limp, Senior Vice President, Amazon Devices, in a statement.

Amazon refreshed its Kindle lineup with a new Oasis e-ink reader, larger and slightly more advanced than the original model.

The Amazon Kindle Oasis with 8GB storage and Wi-Fi has been priced at Rs 21,999, while the 32GB variant that comes with Wi-Fi + 3G connectivity is being offered for Rs 28,999. Earlier last month the company has launched a whole new range of Amazon Echo gadgets.

In terms of specifications, the device features a 7-inch display with 300 ppi. The waterproof Kindle e-readers are rated IPX8, which means that they can survive sitting in two meters of fresh water for one hour. The devices are available to pre-order on Amazon India, and will go on sale on November 15th. The IPX8 rating indicates that the device is waterproof. If you ever got bored of the same fonts with the previous designs, the latest kindle allows you to choose from a variety of styles, whilst it also proudly boasts a setting which can interchange the black words and white background on the reading settings.

The new version of the Kindle Oasis comes with a six-week battery life and a brighter 7-inch screen with 300ppi pixel density.

As far as the design is concerned, it is identical to that of last year's Kindle Oasis.

Amazon now offers a 4G model for the cellular variant in the USA, but in India the company will be offering a Wi-Fi + free 3G model. The Kindle Oasis can be connected to wireless headphones or wireless speakers via Bluetooth. The water-safe fabric cover is priced at Rs. 2,999, and comes in Indigo, Charcoal and Sandstone colors, while the leather cover is priced at Rs. 3,999, and comes in Black or Merlot colors. The regular model is Wi-Fi only and packs 8GB storage, whereas the mid-tier version has 32GB internal memory and costs $280. Amazon also unveiled a new covers for the new Kindle Oasis, which can transform into a stand.
