In order to prove their comeback game is as strong as ever, and just in time for All Hallows Eve, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have put together a pretty impeccable cover of the classic theme song for Halloween. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have been busy with the release of 2 new Nine Inch Nails EPs and the score for Ken Burns' highly acclaimed Vietnam War docuseries. "My friends and I left the theater forever changed". We were damaged and scarred, with the sh!t genuinely scared out of us and that theme stuck firmly in our heads.
The cover is part of a new compilation of re-recorded themes from John Carpenter's films, titled "Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998", released on October 20th.
In celebration of the general spookiness of Friday the 13th and also the release of director/composer John Carpenter's Anthology: Movie Themes 1974 - 1998 (slated for release October 20), the boys in Nine Inch Nails made a decision to throw their magic on a theme that has haunted us for generations. In addition to being available to listen to on YouTube, the Reznor and Ross cover of Halloween can be purchased on Amazon. But John Carpenter's new movie themes anthology will be out by then, so that would be a bit late. Often relying on simple melodies and heavy use of synthesizers, Carpenter was able to create some of the most memorable horror movie music in history.
Carpenter also commented on the new theme himself, stating "Moody and dark, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' version of Halloween does incredible justice to the original. I'm impressed". As we get closer to the great celebration that is Halloween, put this theme on repeat and enjoy.
