"After careful consideration, I have decided to make the following changes to the National Executive,"Zuma said in a statement".
The changes include shifting Hlengiwe Mkhize to the higher education portfolio to replace Nzimande.
In addition, the removal of Dr Nzimande from the Cabinet is part of Zuma's manoeuvres to secure successful election of his ordained successor at the forthcoming ANC December national conference.
Busa said after Zuma's announcement on Tuesday that it was concerned about lack of stability in key departments, including energy and home affairs, as certainty was a prerequisite for business confidence. Advocate Bongani Thomas Bongo is now the new Minister of State Security and Mmamaloko Kubayi is the new Minister of Communications.
State Security Minister David Mahlobo will take over as Minister of Energy.
"I thank the former members of the National Executive for good service in their previous portfolios". The major change to Tuesday's reshuffle saw SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande cut from the executive.
Nzimande has in recent months been incessantly vocal in calling for Zuma to go.
Buti Manamela has been appointed her deputy.
"COSATU expects cabinet reshuffles to be about strengthening the capacity of government in order to help government to better implement its developmental agenda and deliver on its promises", a statement from the ruling African National Congress (ANC) alliance partner said.
The opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) said it is not surprised by Zuma's cabinet reshuffle. In March, he fired respected finance minister Pravin Gordhan and several others, leading to a fall in the country's currency.
