Residential house of slain PDP worker set on fire in Shopian

"Three terrorists fired and killed ex sarpanch Ramzan Sheikh in Shopian".

Pertinently, a militant Showkat Kumar of Trenz was killed during a scuffle that broke after a Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) activist was shot dead by them at Shopian's Imamsahab area last evening. Large number of people attended his funeral prayers amidst chanting of pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Mohammed Ramzan Sheikh, a former sarpanch, was killed by militants on Monday night at his house located at Humhuna of Shopian.

The house was damaged in the blaze.

A mob, mainly instigated by over ground workers of Hizbul Mujahideen, today attacked Sheikhs house while his family was grieving his death, the police said. "In scuffle a terrorist Shaukat also got killed", Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) S.P. Vaid tweeted.

Immediately, police swung into action and rescued the family members which included Sheikh's mother, Rafiqa, wife Nusrat Begum, brother Farooq Ahmed Sheikh, his two sons and two daughters.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti condemned the killing of the sarpanch and termed the incident as a dastardly attack. "The killing of Sheikh, a grass root worker of PDP, will do no good", he said.
