Senators voted overwhelmingly, 70-23, to approve her for the post.

The GOP-led Senate has confirmed Callista Gingrich's nomination to be USA ambassador to the Vatican. "Instead, she said that, should she be confirmed, she would focus on advancing global religious liberty, combating terrorism and human trafficking and fighting diseases such as H.I.V./AIDS and Ebola".

Callista Gingrich is the president of both Gingrich Productions in Arlington, Va. and the charitable non-profit Gingrich Foundation, and is a former Congressional aide.

Callista Gingrich, the wife of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, has been confirmed as the USA ambassador to the Vatican in a 70-23 Senate vote that included backing from key Democrats.

She said during her confirmation hearing that Trump still wants the U.S.to lead the world on protecting the environment, even after he withdrew the country from the Paris climate deal. Almost two dozen Dems sent Newt Gingrich's wife to the Holy See. The pair began dating when Mr. Gingrich was still married to his previous wife.

In 2010, the couple's film company, Gingrich Productions (http://www.gingrichproductions.com), made a documentary about Pope John Paul II.

After a six year affair at the expense of Mr. Gingrich's second wife, Marianne Ginther, who Mr. Gingrich also had an affair with at the expense of his first wife, Jacqueline May Battley, his former high school geometry teacher, the former House Speaker married Callista Bisek in 2000. President Donald Trump had announced in May that he would nominate her.
