NED University of Engineering and Technology has become the top- ranked engineering university in Sindh and has second position in all public- sector universities of the province, according to QS Asia University Rankings 2018.
The methodology behind the rankings weighs each university's reputation among its peers (30%) and employers (20%) most heavily, with research citations (20%), student/faculty ratio (15%), "internationalization" (10%), and the percentage of the faculty holding PhDs (5%) also factors. The varsity's score in "citations per paper" dropped from 81.4 in 2017 rankings to 53.4 this year, indicating a drastic drop in quality of research work. The varsity, in recent years, has taken a beating in domestic as well as worldwide rankings , As Reported By Hindustan Times.
In the ranking report released on Monday, IIT-Bombay held the 34th rank, IIT-Delhi held the 41st and IIT-Madras held the 48th position. "This is a reflection of the excellent work being done by the faculty and students of the institute".
"Universities, Institutions and IISC have their unique strengths and get different scores as per different criterion and parameters. Our papers per faculty are very low and we produce one third of the papers of what faculty in IISc Bangalore or IIT Bombay produces", Rajivlochan said, adding that the faculty needed to publish in high-impact journals.
The university appears to be on a fast track to becoming a regional educational powerhouse as just last month, the university made it to the top 400, out of 1,000 universities from 77 countries, in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2018.
