Christopher Plummer on replacing Kevin Spacey: 'Situation is very sad'

With Spacey facing numerous allegations of sexual misconduct, the 87-year-old Oscar victor will step into the role of billionaire oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, re-shooting scenes with the plan to keep the film's current release date of December 22.

Plummer will instead replace Spacey, immediately re-shooting all the scenes already filmed by Spacey in order to keep to its December 22 premiere date.

"It isn't replacing. In a amusing way it's starting all over again because it's going to be different, naturally", the 87-year-old told Entertainment Tonight.

“The situation is very sad, because hes such a talented guy.

With a grueling filming schedule ahead of him, Plummer has been studying the film's script whenever he has downtime during his press tour - and despite the sad circumstances surrounding the recast, Plummer can't complain about his new gig. "Everyone has to do it, Ridley and I talked about this before long ago, so it wasn't very new to me".

Pulling the film from the festival, chiefs from the projects distribution company released a statement which read: “All the Money in the World is a superb film and more than worthy of its place of honour in the AFI Fest.

The decision to replace Spacey was unanimous among Sony Pictures execs as well as the film's cast and crew, including actors Michelle Pfeiffer and Mark Wahlberg, to re-shoot the scenes. "I love what [the screenwriter's] done, Susan Cohen, she's done it with such imagination that [Charles Dickens] has writer's block and his own characters come and help him out". "That's all I can say, because that's it".

This decision was taken due to the sexual misconduct allegations that surfaced against Spacey almost two weeks ago. I'm very saddened by what happened to Kevin, but what can I do? "I've got an offer to play a great role". I admire Ridley Scott and I'm thrilled to be making a movie for him. Actor Anthony Rapp, who has been advanced by Spacey when he was only 14, was the first to come forward and numerous others have also come forward with accounts in the weekend since.

Spacey was also fired from Netflix's House of Cards following the allegations.
