New Delhi, Nov 14:An Army jawan was killed and a policeman left injured during an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
Security forces also retaliated in an encounter. On Monday, an encounter in Handwara had left two militants dead.
Security forces had surrounded Nowbug village after receiving information about the presence of militants there.
Mobile internet services of all cellular companies, including BSNL, were suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of rumours in south Kashmir, where two encounters are going on between militants and security forces since early Tuesday morning.
The slain militants were identified as local cadres of the Hizbul Mujahideen group. The police said that "the attack was repulsed and both the militants were killed".
On the other hand, complete shutdown is being observed in Palhalan, Bratkalan and Sopore areas of Baramulla district against the killing of Ashiq Ahmad Butt and Tayyeb Majeed Mir.
Meanwhile clashes erupted in Redwani area of Kulgam district and in other adjacent areas in South Kashmir. The gunfight between the two sides takes place intermittently across the region.
