A day after violent protests broke out on the campus, Chennai's Sathyabama declared a month's holiday and asked the students to vacate the hostel.
"The students have set fire to some beds in their hostel".
According to sources, the student had managed to sneak in a paper into the exam hall and was copying from it when the invigilator caught her red-handed. About 300 students are said to have agitated at the campus and are also torched hostel furniture and mattresses. A police team conducted an inquiry into the incident but no arrests were made. Heavy security involving about 200 policemen have now been deployed at the campus, reported Times Now.
Police personnel and fire and rescue services rushed to the scene to bring the situation under control.
As the news of Monica's suicide spread, protests took place with several students torching furniture at the college and the hostel. The girl was appearing for her semester exams. The invigilator had caught her copying and had asked her to leave the exam hall around 10.30 am.
It was learned that the girl was found hanging in her hostel room.
The student identified as Radha Mounika was pursuing Computer Engineering first year from Sathyabama University in Chennai.
Police said that the girl had sent a text message to her brother, Rakesh who is also a student of the same university.
The body has now been sent to Royapettah government hospital for post-mortem.
