Danvers, played by Larson, takes on superhero strength, energy projection and flight after having her DNA fused to that of an alien.
The most recent screenplay is by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider) working from previous drafts by Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman. Eventually, after Mar-Vell dies of cancer, Carol takes up the mantle of Captain Marvel. That post has since been updated to include the most pertinent line of the lot: Jude Law's character, Walter Lawson, will be the all-wise mentor for Carol Danvers as she begins to wrangle her superhuman powers under control.
Jude Law looks set to appear in the upcoming Captain Marvel film opposite lead star Brie Larson.
Mar-Vell was a spy sent by the Kree to keep an eye on Earth, who found himself playing the role of a superhero known as Captain Marvel. Marvel veteran Kevin Feige is producing. Carol Danvers doesn't exactly have a great track record with her relationships, with a good number of them ending up dead.
So, what do you think of the Jude Law Captain Marvel casting?
He's just finished shooting Woody Allen's next movie (ugh), due out next year. But Captain Marvel has a tremendously loyal fan following, and it's easy to see how this character (an Air Force pilot who ends up with the powers of a fallen Kree warrior) can translate that kind of success to a Marvel Studios production.
Ben Mendelsohn is also said to be playing the villain of the movie (possibly the leader of the Skrulls or a Skrull Commander).
Captain Marvel is set for release March 8, 2019.
