Paul Pogba urged to emulate Manchester United legends

Eric Cantona has put forward a suggestion for which player from world football he would like to see pull on the Manchester United jersey.

The former Manchester United star, who retired from football in 1997, failed to rule out one day managing the club.

Pep Guardiola's City lead rivals United by eight points, with the Etihad Stadium outfit also receiving plaudits for a free-flowing approach that has seen them net 40 times in 12 league games this term. "He played for Argentina, which is a great country - but he doesn't play for Paris, which is a small club". We enjoyed the game - it's a strong philosophy of the club. "But I do love Mourinho and he can win things and he will win things which is very important".

"I prefer when it's more fancy and more creative of course".

"It's just I prefer if it is more offensive and that's just because it's United". I love the way he played.

United have scored league 27 goals already this season, a total only bettered by City's 40, and having conceded just six they have the best defensive record in the Premier League.

With a fantastic performance in the 4-1 win over Newcastle United at the weekend, French superstar Pogba marked his return from a two-month injury.

However, Mourinho has come under fire for his tactics in some big games, such as the recent visit to Anfield to play Liverpool, which played out as a tepid 0-0 draw.

He replied: "If it's Manchester United maybe I sit around the table and we can speak for a few minutes".

"Like Barcelona or the Real Madrid of [Zinedine] Zidane, where you have players like [Luka] Modric or [Toni] Kroos who are the brains of the team".

The Red Devils take on Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday at 3.0 at Old Trafford.
