Ola driver locks up Bengaluru woman in cab, misbehaves

According to the fashion stylist she had booked an Ola cab from Indra Nagar to BTM layout on Sunday evening. She said: "I shouted and asked him to stop the vehicle - -unfazed, and continuing his act, he very nonchalantly asked me what was wrong".

The incident took place around 10.30 pm on Sunday, in a deserted spot on the Ring Road in south east Bengaluru. It was when the vehicle reached the Intermediate Ring Road that the driver allegedly attempted to sexually assault her, while she was in the backseat of the auto.

She also said the cab driver threatened her over the phone.

The driver allegedly tried to touch the woman inappropriately after child-locking her inside his cab. "I started banging the door, cab-window and cried for help after which he let me go". He called her to warn her that he would cause her harm if approached the police. "That is when he released the lock and I ran out of the cab", she said. "After much screaming, he reluctantly stopped the auto, and continued standing on the road until I took a picture of him and threatened to go to the cops".

It was only upon reaching the Ejipura signal that she found an autorickshaw. "It all happened so suddenly that I was taken aback".

The woman also alleged that the company did not inform her of taking any action against the driver.

The police said they came to know about the incident through the media.

Ola Spokesperson said in a statement, "We have also urged the customer to lodge a formal complaint with the authorities".

Ola, acting on her complaint, has now suspended Reddy. "Safety of customers is our priority and we will continue to extend our full support to this investigation against the driver", it said in the statement.

Speaking on the incident with IBT Times, Ola spokesperson said: "We regret the unfortunate experience the customer had during their ride. I have decided not to file a police complaint", she told TOI.
