This list from the Unicode Consortium will likely make its debut sometime in fall of next year, coinciding with the release of Apple's new iPhone operating system update.
A draft of the new guidelines announced Monday night by the Unicode Consortium would allow vendors to give you the power to reverse the direction of your emoji. New emoji sequences, which are used for variations on a single emoji (like the skin tone variations), were added as well, giving the superhero and supervillain two gender options, skin tone options for leg and foot and 48 new sequences for man and woman, which include skin tone variations and hairstyle options.

With the final list not yet nailed down and Apple's new operating system still a ways out, it looks as if we could be waiting nearly an entire year to get our hands on this collection of new iOS 12 emojis.
Emoji are a big part of today's conversations and they're constantly evolving, improving, and expanding.
"Final decisions about the 2018 emoji list will be made at the Unicode Technical Meeting in January, with details to be published by the end of Q1 2018", according to Emojipedia.
The proposal to include this change in a future round of Unicode's emoji updates is just a draft at this point and might not ever become a feature on your phone. Apple and other companies would be able to pick and choose which emoji will be customizable.
