Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle caught us by surprise when it launched in August, as it managed to mix the charm of both Mario and the Rabbids with strategic gameplay similar to X-COM.
"Each player has just three available actions per turn, and how you decide to invest them is a big part of the strategy here", Ubisoft wrote in a blog post. Utilizing combat tactics and the cover system, players will explore the four unique worlds with their team of heroes defeating foes, gathering collectibles and solving puzzles along their quest.
Players can select a party of three heroes from the game's roster of eight, and apply one of three different skill and statistic load-outs.
Today, Ubisoft announced Versus Mode, a new local two-player game mode for Mario + Rabbids™ Kingdom Battle, free for all players on Nintendo Switch™. In the game's additional co-op challenges, players team up with a friend in local multiplayer, where they'll play three levels of difficulty, taking on adversaries as a team.
While I wish this update also came with online play, it's cool to see games like Mario + Rabbids getting support in the form of free little updates like this. And just to be sure that things heat up near the end, there's the Showtime option, which kicks in as the match nears its end and turns regular items into super items, while also opening up new ways to get around the map, like pipes or trampolines.
