In a sinister plot straight out of a crime thriller, a woman murdered her husband and almost succeeded in passing off her paramour as her spouse but was foiled by a bowl of mutton soup. However, she came close to Rajesh, a physiotherapist.
However, relatives became suspicious when "Sudhakar" refused to have the mutton soup being served to patients.
Police say she then planned to make Rajesh undergo plastic surgery with the aim of eventually taking Sudhakar's identity.
The Telangana police investigates a freaky murder case in which a pair of lovers have been accused of allegedly killing the woman's husband and then sought cosmetic surgery so the male lover could take his place. The treatment was underway and when it appeared that Swathi and Rajesh would get away with the murder, the story took a dramatic turn.
"She lodged a complaint with police stating that a group of four persons attacked her "husband" at their house and poured petrol on his face and other parts of the body and set him on fire".
The dramatic plot began when Swati and her lover Rajesh chose to kill her husband Sudhakar Reddy, a stone-crushing unit operator. After he fell unconscious, the duo hit him on his head with an iron rod, resulting in Reddy's death. Sudhakar's brother lodged a complaint with the police and rushed him to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad for treatment.
Swathi was arrested Sunday on charges of murder and causing disappearance of evidence of offence.
The Reddy family even noticed difference in behaviour, a police officer said. They were shocked when he told the hospital staff that he was a vegetarian, as the real Reddy used to eat non-vegetarian food. Unable to answer the questions, Rajesh allegedly stopped speaking and started communicating with signs. "She then shifted him to a hospital in Hyderabad as her husband Reddy", Nagarkurnool Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police Laxmi Narayana said.
Swathi also revealed that she got the plastic surgery inspiration from popular Telugu movie Yevadu, which was released in 2014.
A police officer said Rajesh will be taken into custody after he is discharged from the hospital.
