Earlier in the day, Israel shut its border crossings with Gaza in response to daily rocket fire from the Hamas-ruled enclave since Trump's announcement on 6 December, which stirred anger across the Arab and Muslim world and concern among Washington's European allies as well as Russian Federation.

The Israeli military said it will close border crossings into Gaza beginning Thursday until further notice "due to the security events and in accordance with security assessments".

"We demand the Islamic world make every Friday a day of anger and revolution in every capital and city until we bring down Trump's decision", Ismail Haniya said.

The crossings being closed, Kerem Shalom and Erez, are the only two on the Israeli border left.

The head of Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas called Thursday for fresh protests across the world against US President Donald Trump's controversial recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

With gunmen from other Palestinian militant groups showing support for Hamas, Haniyeh added, "We are marching towards Jerusalem, sacrificing millions of martyrs along the way", and the crowd repeated his chants. Hamas was created in 1987 to resist Israel's illegal occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. "We expect the state to respond forcefully against so called 'trickles.' Terror organizations must understand that there is a high price for firing rockets at Israel".

Of the projectiles launched on Wednesday from Gaza, one fell in Israel without causing damages whereas two others were intercepted. "The military facilities were used as training and weapons storage compounds", the army said.

In response to Trump's decision, leaders from the 57-member OIC recognized East Jerusalem as the occupied capital of a Palestinian state and called on the worldwide community to do the same, according to the final communique from the group's emergency summit. Still, he said that fact was of little outcome and that Israel holds Hamas accountable for any violence emanating from its territory.
