Zainab murder case: Three policemen arrested for opening fire on protesters

Pakistani police said a mob angered over the recent rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl has attacked a police station in eastern Punjab province, triggering clashes that left at least two people dead and several injured. He also expressed grief over the demise of two protesters as a result of police's firing, and announced three million rupees each for their families.

The girl, Zainab Ansari, disappeared last week while going to a nearby home for Quranic studies and her body was found in a Kasur waste-yard on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar has taken the suo moto notice of Zainab's brutal rape and murder, ordering Inspector General Punjab (IGP) to submit the report in next 24 hour in this connection. No one has yet been arrested, although pictures were circulating on social media showing a bearded man hand in hand in Zainab.

Seven-year-old Zainab was laid to rest amid scenes of mourning and tears on Wednesday night as hundreds of thousand people attended the funeral prayer of fairy-like innocent girl. Adding that: "If the police would have acted immediately, the culprit would have been caught". "This is not the first time such an incident has taken place in Kasur".

Qadri is a staunch political rival of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League party and he has led violent rallies in the capital, Islamabad, since 2014 after eight of his supporters were killed in anti-government rallies in Lahore, Punjab provincial capital.

According to reports, District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Medico-Legal Officer (MLO) Dr Quratulain Attique stated that the examination revealed the minor girl had died of strangulation.

Protests broke out in Kasur shortly after the discovery of Zainab's body was reported. The men had been abducting and raping the children since 2009, under the nose of local police in the area, until the news was broken by media.

According to data compiled by NGO Sahil a year ago, about 11 cases of child sexual abuse are reported from across the country everyday.

On Thursday morning, a prominent news anchor in Pakistan went on air with her daughter sitting in her lap to make a point. He said they have a clue and will soon arrest the main suspect.
