Israel and Iran are on the brink of war

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said: "it is indeed the occupying and aggressive Zionist regime (of Israel) that has seriously jeopardized the region's security, stability, and peace and must be blamed for that".

Almost a week after Israel attacked Iranian targets in Syria, Israel's Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman implied on Wednesday that it might continue to do so.

A senior Israeli official told Channel 10 that the ambassadors were asked to pass along the warnings in light of Jeruslem's "sense" that the global community has not been taking Israel's willingness to act against Iran's entrenchment in Syria seriously. She characterized the actions as "Iran was once again doing what it does - risking conflict and testing the will of its neighbors and opponents to resist its aggression". She added, "The United States will always stand by our ally when confronted with provocations from Iran, Hezbollah, or the Assad regime".

During the UN Security Council briefing on the Situation in Syria on Wednesday, the US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley defended the Israeli regime for its aggression in Syria in response to the downing of its fighter jet, and accused Iran of taking destabilizing moves in the region. "Iran is dragging the region into an adventure and will pay the price for it".

During the reprisal raid, one of the eight Israeli F-16 fighter jets that took part in the operation was apparently hit by a Syrian anti-aircraft missile and crashed.

Last week, the Israeli army launched attacks inside Syria after intercepting what it said was an Iranian drone.

"The road to peace will come when all of the parties stop provoking each other, and choose the responsible path", Haley said.
