In January, Hadid posted a message on her Instagram account for Malik's birthday, reading: "Love this man more than I could ever put into words, & am inspired by his drive to be and do better everyday ✨ cheers to YOUR YEAR my @zayn - happiest happiest birthday & 25th year of life!" "I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend as that I have huge respect and love for".
Malik, a former member of British boy band One Direction, and Hadid, a model for Victoria's Secret, Fendi and Tommy Hilfiger, gave no reason for the split.
He added, "I'm grateful to all of our fans for respecting this hard decision and our privacy at this time".
In a statement on Twitter, Zayn described their relationship as "meaningful and loving" and revealed their split was a "difficult decision", while Gigi said she would be "forever grateful for the love, time and and life lessons" they shared.
Earlier in the day, The Sun had broken the news.
Gigi also posted about their breakup, explaining that she didn't necessarily want to make a statement about the pair ending, and that she's semi-optimistic about the future, closing her post with, "whatever's meant to be, will always be". The two truly seemed to be head over heels in love, we can't believe they're no longer together! He later unfollowed his ex on the social media platform.
Hadid and Malik first got together back in November 2015.
Previously, Malik went through a public break-up with Little Mix star Perrie Edwards.
