Why Stephen Hawking's voice computer spoke with an AMERICAN accent

The theoretical physicist suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Hawking was known for one of the most famous science books of all time, A Brief History of Time, which was the subject Oscar-winning film, The Theory of Everything, in 2014.

In 2002, Hawking was ranked number 25 in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons, his book A Brief History of Time was on the United Kingdom best-seller list for a record-breaking 237 weeks.

Another user wrote: "Even though I can't understand Hawking Dada's books. he is the one who knows the secret of this world". Hawking shocked the physics world when he calculated that this surface should slowly emit radiation (soon to become known as Hawking radiation).

His children Lucy, Robert and Tim said in a statement, "We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today".

"His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humour inspired people across the world", the family said.

He also explained that he was able to change the accent of his computer when the technology advanced, but he decided against it. Still, Hawking progressively lost use of most of his muscles, and for the last three decades of his life was communicating nearly exclusively through a voice synthesizer.

Professor Hawking contracted motor neurone disease in 1963 and was given two years to live but he went on to study at Cambridge and became one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists since Albert Einstein. He and his first wife, Jane Wilde, Wednesday when he was still a grad student and remained together for 30 years before divorcing in 1995.

Newton was a previous holder of that prestigious post.

Hawking's seminal contributions continued through the 1980s.

Hawking also moved into popular culture, with cameos in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "The Simpsons", while his voice appeared in Pink Floyd songs.

Despite a bleak diagnosis, incredibly he lived with the condition for more than 50 years - but since catching pneumonia in 1985 he had to have a tracheotomy which left him unable to speak.

In September 2016 Hawking joined 375 "concerned" scientists in penning an open letter criticizing then-presidential candidate Donald Trump, citing the threat of climate change and blasting his push for the USA to leave the Paris Accord. The couple split after 25 years and he married his former nurse, Elaine Mason, but the union broke down amid allegations, denied by him, of abuse.

"We have lost a colossal mind and a wonderful spirit".

"His passing has left an intellectual vacuum in his wake", tweeted Neil deGrasse Tyson. "People who annoyed him, it was said, found themselves a target". "Think of it as a kind of vacuum energy permeating the fabric of spacetime that defies measure".
