At 15, Anish Bhanwala wins gold and creates history

Anish Bhanwala, a boy aged 15, trumped the men standing in his way to become India's youngest-ever gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games after Tejaswini Sawant added another yellow metal to her decorated CWG resume, here today. "The names keep changing but I get the same results", said the youngster, who is now busy worrying about his maths exam when he lands in India.

In the flyweight 52kg category, Gaurav got the better of Sri Lanka's M Ishan Bandara, overcoming a sluggish start, which included being at the receiving end of two eight counts in the first round itself.

India continues its fairytale run at the Commonwealth games 2018 with over 25 medals to the country's name already.

The day, even otherwise, was profitable for the country, as Tejaswini Sawant and Anjum Moudgil finished 1-2 in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions, though the same can not be said of Shreyasi Singh, who on the lookout for a second gold medal, hardly was on target in the trap final.

Bajrang will take on Kane Charig of Wales for the gold medal.

Pooja Dhanda made a late push in the women's 57kg final bout against Nigeria's Odunayo Adekuoroye but had to be content with a silver medal, losing 5-7. However, Divya still managed to secure a semi-final bout against Nigerian wrestler, Blessing Oborodudu, in a bid to win her first CWG medal. They prepared me well and they prepared me hard.

"I am very happy with what we have achieved". There is no doping offence involved.

The Indian team were not immediately available for comment and the CGF refused to take any further questions. Their accreditation was suspended and both athletes have been removed from the village.

Triple jumper Babu and race walker Thodi had their accreditation revoked and were asked to return home as soon as possible after a hearing on Thursday, Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) President Louise Martin told reporters.

But Indian officials said they would appeal against the ban on Irfan.

The athletes at the center of the storm have been incommunicado since the controversy broke out and are expected to catch a flight to India Friday night.
