PM Modi rolls out Ayushman Bharat scheme, inaugurates first health centre

"The Ayushman Bharat scheme is not limited to simply providing a service, but also invokes public participation so that we can create a healthy, capable and content New India", PM Modi said after launching the scheme.

Pointing out that bamboo had earlier been placed in the category of trees making its cultivation impossible, the Prime Minister said that the relevant law has been amended enabling its cultivation and use. The second component of Ayushman Bharat is to provide insurance cover to 40% of India's population for secondary and tertiary care. Under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, the government aims to open 1.5 lakh health and wellness centre by 2022, which would be equipped to treat host of diseases, including blood pressure, diabetes, cancer and old-age illness. "In all the districts of the country, the rule providing for allocation of a part of the income from mining to local tribal folk has been implemented", said Mr Modi. He said there will be free dialysis facility for the poor of the state and doctors will be available 24 hours. It would be connected to the district hospital for advanced tele-medical consultations. His visit to Chhattisgarh coincides with the birth anniversary of Dalit icon Dr B R Ambedkar.

In a befitting tribute to Babasaheb's contributions to nation building, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take this vision to the next level on Ambedkar Jayanti. Modi, who is the first prime minister to visit the tribal district of Bijapur, also inaugurated a new rail line and a passenger train between Gudum and Bhanupratapur, bringing north Bastar region on railways' map. Another BJP Twitter explained that under PMGSY, more than 2700 KM roads will be built.
