Mourinho said United, who are four points ahead of third-placed Liverpool who have played one more game, have to be cautious of their opponents who are desperate to secure points in a bid to ensure top-flight survival.
Mourinho was equally elated over the Pogba Manchester derby performance, and speaking to The Telegraph he gave an insight into the coaching of the £89 million man and what he told him after the win. Phil Jones has returned to first-team training, however, but is unlikely to be risked given his recent lack of game time.
"I tell you exactly what I told him", added Mourinho, "and that is that I don't expect you to be Man of the Match every week, I don't expect you to score two goals every week".
"Only 11 can start so the same questions you are doing to me, you should do to every other manager because everyone has players in the same situation". I would like people to be a little more honest when we do something positive.
Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have once again been left out of the Manchester United starting line-up by Jose Mourinho.
"But listen, he scored two goals so it's not down to me. We are not going to do anything insane", said Mourinho. They have been the best team during the season and the distance of points at the end of the season will be the outcome of that superiority that they showed.
"Pogba was just going through a bit of a bad patch a while back before the Manchester derby".
In truth, City have looked down on everyone this season virtually since the first ball was kicked last August.
"Hopefully we finish second this season and then next time we can try and improve on that".
