Gronkowski won't be present for first day of offseason program

While Gronkowski has yet to decide if he will suit up for the 2018 season, he reportedly will not be attending the start of the Patriots' offseason program, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The uncertainty surrounding Rob Gronkowski continues.

Although Gronkowski has yet to commit to returning, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported in February that he was expected to play in 2018.

If Gronk does decide to step away from football, Dwayne Allen is now in line to be quarterback Tom Brady's No. 1 option at tight end. The report notes he has had "good communication" with the Patriots.

Gronk does have incentive to be in Foxborough for the workouts at some point.

"We have the voluntary offseason program that starts on Monday", he said.

When the New England Patriots assemble for the first time since their defeat in Super Bowl LII, they might do so without one of their biggest stars.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick acknowledged on Friday that not all Patriots players would be present on Monday.

Tom Brady will also miss the opening session, as he is in Qatar on a Best Buddies mission.
