The biggest dream of every DreamCast fan has come true.
Adam Koralik, a YouTuber focused on video game content, traveled to Japan for SEGA Fes 2018 and there they confirmed that Shenmue I & II will be sold for a price of $29.99 United States dollars on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Their release was announced yesterday, and according to the commentary, Sega, the new edition of Shenmue 1 and 2 are not simple reprints, and improved. In the meantime though, Sega will be re-releasing Shenmue 1 and 2 on PC and current generation consoles. The third installment in the series ran a successful Kickstarter campaign and is expected to be out later this year.
As well as both Japanese and English voice work, there'll also be extra features for PC players, including a choice between retro and contemporary control schemes, and scalable screen resolutions. Pre-orders for the re-release are already live, but a final release date has yet to be announced.
A few screenshots of the two Shenmue games have been released by the makers, and looking at them makes it apparent that no HD remastering has gone into them.
So it isn't a remake and it would be hard to define them even remasters, which indeed is not the terms used by the publisher, and "HD" it's not even mentioned nor on the box art neither in the press releases delivered thus far.
