Kangaroo back home after hopping around this SC county

The McCormick County Sheriff's Office received reports of a kangaroo near the Clarks Hill area overnight Monday.

A pet kangaroo was seen hopping along the side of a SC highway on Monday.

That's how a deputy captioned a Facebook photo of a kangaroo in the road in McCormick County.

A deputy couldn't believe what he heard from McCormick County dispatch on Tuesday morning.

Stearns, who's been in law enforcement for more than 30 years, said the early morning call to dispatch was a first for him.

So did David Yeldell, a lifelong McCormick County resident. "The Sheriff's office and the owner are aware that he is out and hopping/jumping" along S.C. 28.

It's not illegal under SC law to possess a kangaroo with proper permits and licensing, and Stearns said the farm was in compliance with current statutes.
